Key topicsIn retirement, living off your money creates a different kind of anxietyOnce the paycheck stops and someone starts drawing from their own assets, money often feels more personal and more stressful. Chris can speak to the emotional side of that transition and explain how thoughtful planning helps create peace of mind, not just projected income. This angle works especially well for shows that want practical insight into why retirement feels so different emotionally than people expect. Replacing the paycheck is only part of the job, because retirement also changes how you live, decide, and relateThe years leading up to retirement force people to think not just about income, but about how they will spend their time, handle uncertainty, and navigate this shift with the people closest to them. Chris can bring the conversation down to earth by showing how market stress, decision fatigue, and changing roles at home all collide during this period, especially for couples trying to picture retirement differently. His insight helps listeners understand that a strong plan does more than protect assets-it reduces noise, supports better decisions, and creates room for a more intentional life. This gives hosts a conversation that feels practical, timely, and highly relevant to pre-retirees trying to prepare for more than just the numbers. Why retirement planning fails when it only prepares the money and not the personA lot of people nearing retirement look financially prepared on paper but still feel unsettled when they think about what life will actually feel like without work anchoring their time, identity, and sense of usefulness. Chris is well positioned to talk about how financial planning and personal transition need to happen together, because uncertainty about purpose often shows up at the exact same time people are being asked to make high-stakes decisions about money. He can help audiences see that the emotional side of retirement is not separate from planning-it shapes confidence, decision-making, and whether someone can actually move into this next stage with clarity. That makes this a compelling conversation for shows that want something deeper than surface-level retirement advice. View all topics →

Helping People Navigate Retirement, Identity Shifts, and Intentional Living

Nearly 20 years Helping people prepare for retirement4 Pillars of sustainable retirement planning3 Buckets in his wealth-building approachSales Director Named by Financial Marketing Group in 2013

Chris Maduri has spent nearly two decades helping people prepare for one of life’s biggest transitions: retirement—the moment when work no longer defines the structure of your days.

He began his career just before the 2008 Financial Crisis, an experience that shaped how he sees risk. Watching well-built plans unravel under pressure taught him early that markets don’t always cooperate—and assumptions don’t always hold. Since then, his focus has been clear: build plans rooted in predictability, reliable income, and the ability to hold up in real-world conditions—not just ideal ones.

Over time, Chris noticed something deeper. The people who thrive in retirement aren’t just financially prepared—they’re personally prepared. Because retirement doesn’t just change your income… it changes your identity, your routine, your sense of purpose, and how you relate to your time and the people around you.

That’s why Chris frames retirement as the “fourth quarter of life”—and, if you’ve done things right, a little overtime. In his view, the goal isn’t just to retire from something, but to step intentionally into something meaningful. A great plan answers a simple but powerful question: What are you retiring to?

He also helps people understand that risk evolves. During your working years, volatility is something you ride through. In retirement, it feels different. You’re no longer accumulating—you’re drawing down.

About this episode

Chris shares much more than retirement advice. He opens up about his own remarkable journey through adoption, struggles with identity, the devastating loss of his best friend, alcohol, divorce, multiple DUIs, jail, and the spiritual transformation that followed.

During one of the lowest seasons of his life, Chris began reading the Bible, slowing down, becoming still, and developing a deeper relationship with God. That process helped him begin seeing himself differently—not according to his failures, income, career, achievements, or the opinions of other people, but through a completely different understanding of identity, grace, responsibility, and purpose.

In this conversation, you’ll discover:

• Why financial preparation alone does not prepare you for retirement

• How career and achievement can become dangerously connected to identity

• Why you should begin designing your “second act” years before retirement

• How to balance work, family, health, faith, and enjoying life now

• Why stillness, prayer, listening, and self-awareness matter

• How Chris rebuilt his life after addiction, DUIs, divorce, and jail

• Why failure does not mean your life or purpose is over

• How small acts of service can reveal a much larger purpose

• Why purpose ultimately has to extend beyond yourself

• How to stop endlessly preparing and begin taking meaningful action

• Why you do not need to be perfect before you can add value to someone else’s life

One of Chris’s most powerful insights from the episode:

“If you’re looking for purpose, it has to be outside of you. No one’s purpose is to help themselves.”

Whether you are 25, 45, 65, approaching retirement, already retired, experiencing a major life transition, or simply wondering, “What does God want me to do next?”—this conversation is for you.

Your career may eventually end.

Your job title may change.

But if you are still here, your life still matters—and there is still good you can do.
