Tinker Dabble Doodle Try: Unlock the Power of the Unfocused Mind
Dr. Srini Pillay, Harvard-Trained Psychiatrist, Author, Brain Researcher & Co-Founder of Reulay Digital Therapeutics.
Harness your mind’s innate tendency to wander, stall, rest, and unfocus and become more productive—in the boardroom, living room, or classroom.Named one of Coastal Living’s Best Books for the Beach This Summer To finish tasks and achieve goals, most people believe that more focus is the solution. We rely on to-do lists, calendar reminders, noise-blocking headphones, and sometimes medication to help us concentrate—even though these tactics often fail to substantially improve productivity. Drawing on the latest brain research, compelling stories from his psychological practice, and colorful examples of counterintuitive success from sports, business, education, and the arts, neuroscientist Srini Pillay, M.D., challenges traditional ideas about productivity, revealing the lasting, positive benefits of adding deliberate and regular unfocus to your repertoire. A fascinating tour through brain wavelengths and rhythm, mindsets, and mental relaxation, Tinker Dabble Doodle Try demonstrates how specific kinds of planned unfocus stimulate cognitive calmness, jumpstart productivity, enhance innovation, inspire creativity, improve long-term memory, and, of course, help you stay on target. Tinkering with ideas and with things releases your mind to wander from a state of stuckness into a possibility frame of mind, triggering neural connections and new insights. Dabbling in a new endeavor—whether a hobby or fantasy—disrupts your habitual and reactive thinking, helping you find new solutions to old problems. Doodling can help you tap into another brain frequency to remove obstacles and create opportunities and inspiration. With techniques for training the brain to unfocus, concepts for scheduling busy lives, and ideas for controlling this new cognitive-toggling capability, Tinker Dabble Doodle Try will change how you think about daydreaming, relaxing, leaving work unfinished, and even multitasking. What you’ll discover is a greater freedom, a deeper intelligence, and a more profound joy in your life.Praise for Tinker Dabble Doodle Try“Pillay’s effortless writing style, combined with an excellent balance of popular psychology and self-help, makes this a helpful read for those who enjoy a light dive into psychology with practical applications.”—Library Journal“Pillay cites an intriguing range of brain studies to support his argument, and his case studies of individuals with whom he has worked provide useful insights.”—Kirkus Reviews “Dr. Srini Pillay offers a brilliant, deeply researched, and even more deeply imagined blueprint for using one’s full mental armamentarium, conscious, unconscious, and all the undiscovered rest! The Science Behind The Law of Attraction: A Step-by-Step Guide to Putting the Brain Science Behind The Law of Attraction to Work For You
Dr. Srini Pillay, Harvard-Trained Psychiatrist, Author, Brain Researcher & Co-Founder of Reulay Digital Therapeutics.
"The Law of Attraction"-a law that states that you get in life what you put out-has a dedicated group of followers and dissenters alike. Most people who believe in the law “sense” its truth but have not necessarily benefitted from using it. Others who dissent, do so because they have tried writing checks out to themselves endlessly to no avail or they simply think this is a load of hogwash. If it were in fact true that you can attract what you want to your life, it would stand to reason that brain science would show us that this is true. And this is exactly what “The Science Behind The Law of Attraction” demonstrates. In this workbook, Dr. Srini Pillay draws on his experience as a Harvard psychiatrist and brain-imaging researcher to describe seven scientific laws that explain how “The Law of Attraction” works. Whether the goal is weight loss, a romantic relationship, financial success or happiness, Dr. Pillay explains how we can draw on brain science to make sense of “The Law of Attraction.” Drawing on extensive experience as a clinician and an executive coach, the author walks us through the scientific basis of each of the seven scientific laws of attraction rooted in brain science. In addition, he then provides the solutions and invites the reader to complete exercises targeted to specific brain-processes that bring us closer to realizing our dreams.

Winner of a Books for a Better Life AwardEveryone experiences some level of apprehension about major life decisions—from wedding day jitters to new job nerves. But what about the quieter, less noticeable fears that inform everyday choices and disrupt relationships? Fearing intimacy, change, or failure may sound cliché, but for most people, deeply embedded anxieties such as these can act as subconscious saboteurs. In Life Unlocked, Harvard psychotherapist Dr. Srinivasan Pillay draws from cutting-edge research in psychology and neuroscience to show that the biggest roadblock to happiness is fear. Brain imaging studies reveal that when fear is reframed, a person can become less fearful. In fact, fear itself doesn't cause anxiety—fear of fear is what causes anxiety and dread. Recognizing and understanding fear is the first step toward overcoming it. Based on his research and extensive clinical experience, Dr. Pillay addresses specific, common problems such as fear of success, economic worries, and relationship anxieties, and also explores broader subjects such as the biology of prejudice and the science of positive thinking. With helpful exercises and proven techniques, Life Unlocked shows how to move past fear and unlock the happiness you deserve.

Dr. Srini Pillay trained as a physician in South Africa, graduating at the top of his medical school class before earning a Medical Research Council fellowship in neurochemistry. He completed his psychiatry residency at McLean Hospital through Harvard Medical School, where he became the most awarded resident in the institution’s history. He later directed both the Outpatient Anxiety Disorders Program and the Panic Disorders Research Program in Brain Imaging at McLean, and spent 17 years conducting federally funded brain research while serving as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
Over time, his work moved beyond diagnosing and treating illness toward a deeper question: how do belief, attention, meaning, and emotion shape biology itself? That inquiry led him to pioneer psychogenic longevity, the science of how mindset influences healthspan and lifespan. His perspective challenges one cause explanations of disease and instead examines the constant dialogue between brain, body, and environment.
Today, Srini is Chief Medical Officer and Co Founder of Reulay, an AI driven digital therapeutics company delivering science based mindset shifts to improve well being. He also co founded MindForm Sanctuaries, which integrates neuroscience informed digital art into physical spaces to support emotional and physiological health.
