You can look fit and still be losing the war on heart disease

This conversation matters because plenty of people still assume that staying active means they are automatically protected. David’s story cuts straight through that false comfort: after a lifetime of training and even setting a world record in endurance rowing, he was told he had the coronary arteries of a ninety-two-year-old. What makes him compelling here is not just the shock of that diagnosis, but the way he turned it into deep research on genetics, inflammation, and what people miss when they mistake visible fitness for internal health.

David Frost is a Master Fitness Trainer, world-record-holding endurance rower, adjunct professor, and author of three health and wellness books. Raised in New Jersey as the second of seven children, he went on to the U.S. Naval Academy, where rowing first became a serious discipline and a lasting influence on how he thinks about effort, resilience, and long-term health. His career later spanned military service, defense work, teaching, speechwriting, nonprofit leadership, and fitness coaching.

In his seventies, after a lifetime of staying active, David was told by his cardiologist that he had the coronary arteries of a much older man. That diagnosis sent him deeper into the study of heart disease, genetics, inflammation, and what it really takes to protect health span, not just lifespan. He approached it the way he has approached other complex problems in his life: by breaking them down, studying the root cause, and turning what he learned into something practical enough for other people to use.

Today, David is focused on helping more people age with strength, clarity, and dignity. Through Well Past Forty, his writing, speaking, podcast appearances, and coaching, he offers a grounded alternative to the noise of the wellness world: no magic pill, no shortcut, just meaningful habits, honest effort, and accessible ways to live better for longer.
