Key topicsRebel Yell — Why Going to Church Can Be the Counterculture MoveIan Paddock brings a Christian lens shaped by the US Naval Academy, Navy aviation and defence training to a claim that runs against the usual script. He argues that Christianity has moved through cycles, from being the accepted club to being something people walk away from because it belonged to their parents. In that setting, he says the surprising act may now be choosing church and saying so out loud. Listeners leave seeing faith less as a leftover tradition and more as a live question of identity, courage and belonging.Making the Gospel Readable at 10Ian Paddock wrote A Summary of the Greatest Story Ever Told as a defence professional and Christian author who wanted the book to be approachable by someone as young as 10. The promise is simple but hard: make the message clear enough for a young reader without treating faith as shallow. He can also speak to the surprise he found after publishing, with the most enthusiastic responses coming from people in their 60s to 80s. Listeners leave seeing why plain language can serve both new readers and older believers who want to return to the basics.Borrowed Faith — How Belief Becomes Your OwnIan Paddock explains faith ownership from lived experience as a Christian author who says he first borrowed his parents' faith before making it his own. Most faith conversations focus on belief as something people either keep or reject, but Ian looks at the quieter middle stage where inherited faith has to become personal. His book, A Summary of the Greatest Story Ever Told, gives him a checkable way to talk about that shift without turning it into jargon or a sermon. Listeners leave with language for the moment when faith stops being family background and becomes a chosen commitment.View all topics →

Ian Paddock is a Christian author, former US Navy aviator, and experienced instructor passionate about helping people understand the Bible’s greatest story and discover the deeper meaning of faith.

After a career in military aviation and more than a decade teaching aircrew in flight simulators, Ian found a different kind of fulfilment in sharing his faith through Bible studies, home groups, and conversations about the Christian message.

Having grown up around Christianity, Ian’s own faith developed through asking questions and coming to personal convictions about the truth of the Bible. That journey informs his approachable way of exploring faith—one that welcomes both those who are new to Christianity and those who have been around church for years but still struggle to explain the Bible’s overarching message.

In his book, A Summary of the Greatest Story Ever Told, Ian seeks to make the Bible’s connected story accessible to readers of different ages and levels of familiarity with Christianity. His message challenges the idea that Christianity is simply about being a good person, instead exploring humanity’s need for a Saviour and the hope found in Jesus Christ.

Ian is particularly interested in conversations about faith, purpose, meaning, and the role of belief in shaping how we live.
