CLEAN by Dr M Power will inspire you to recognize your full capacity to change, once and for all!It at began when Maria Power was eleven years old, travelling alone on a plane from the Philippines to Australia. All on her own, she learned early in life that she had no one to really rely on. Not yet a teenage, she was desperate for the approval of her dad and caregivers, yet all she heard were the disapproving sermons from family members about how evil her mother had been. In her search for a sense of belonging and the protection of parents/guardians from the perils of the world, Maria made grave mistakes that continue to haunt her to this day. She smoked meth (“shabu”) in her teens to console her broken heart and also numbed her pain with alcohol and toxic relationships.Once in her twenties, no longer innocent but still feeling totally abandoned, she was on an express train to hell. She lived a dark life, involved deeply with the Yakuza, Triad, and Sydney Vietnamese gangs. She travelled to over fourteen countries, lived in over 120 cities, and led a double life, wedged between gangland, the corporate world, and fashion modelling, while partying with A-list celebrities, politicians, and fashionistas. After a dozen stints in psych wards in the U.S., Japan, Philippines, and Australia, she was pushed to her very rock bottom and somehow found a monastery. There, she shaved her head and made a decision to unravel the tragedies and traumas she had subjected herself to. After five and a half years in the monastery, she devoted her life to completing her PhD studies and deepening her self-love practices of yoga, stillness, mystical arts, alchemy, and energy healing.Dr. Power rereleased this book with a new title, fifteen years after first publication, and her story was turned into a TV episode, leading over 30 million people to tune in and become inspired by her story (#MmkMeetMaria). Dr Maria Power brings together medical expertise, lived experience and a deep commitment to helping people create lasting change. As an addiction specialist and recovery coach, she supports people who want to move beyond unhealthy coping patterns, rebuild their wellbeing and create a life that reflects who they truly want to be.

Maria’s approach is shaped by her own journey through adversity and recovery, alongside her medical background and doctoral research into collaborative peer recovery coaching. Her work explores the patterns, triggers and underlying challenges that can keep people stuck, helping them develop greater self-awareness and healthier, more sustainable ways of living.

Passionate about challenging stigma, Maria is particularly interested in supporting high-performing individuals and leaders who may appear successful on the outside while privately struggling with alcohol, substance use or the pressures of maintaining their lives and careers. She believes meaningful recovery goes beyond simply stopping a behaviour: it involves understanding yourself, building healthier habits and creating the foundations for genuine personal transformation.

Through her work, including her Superchargers Inner Circle community, Maria champions a more holistic and compassionate approach to recovery—one that recognises the whole person and the influence positive change can have on families, workplaces and wider communities.

Maria’s message is simple: you do not have to lose everything before you choose to change.
