Drawing on leadership experience across telco and banking, this conversation unpacks why high-trust cultures are not soft work, but operating conditions for performance during disruption.Psychological Safety Is Not The Opposite Of PerformanceHR and people leaders are under pressure to improve engagement while the business still expects speed, accountability, and results. A common misunderstanding is that psychological safety means lowering standards or making everyone comfortable, when it is really about creating the conditions for people to speak up, take risks, and do better work. Adeline Tiah is a Singapore-based leadership and team coach, known for helping senior leaders understand how to lead through transformation, disruption, and AI-driven change without losing trust, performance, or engagement. Her work sits at the intersection of leadership, psychological safety, team performance, and change management, with a clear point of view: business as usual is no longer enough, but speed and performance cannot come at the expense of trust.

Drawing on 25+ years of leadership experience across the telco and banking industries, including senior roles at HSBC, UOB, Standard Chartered, and M1, Adeline has seen what happens when organizations ask teams to move faster, adopt new technology, and compete in changing markets without giving people the safety, clarity, and confidence to do their best work. She helps leaders find the sweet spot between high performance and psychological safety, where teams can deliver results while still feeling empowered to speak up, innovate, and take risks.

Her approach is practical and evidence-based. Rather than treating leadership development as a one-off event, she designs stackable, scalable, and sustainable learning journeys that build over time. Through her REINVENT™ methodology, set out in her book Reinvent 4.

About this episode

What happens when AI makes information and execution easier—but the trust, judgment and human relationships needed to use that technology well become even more important?

Adeline Tiahhas spent 28 years in corporate roles across telecommunications and banking, followed by nearly a decade in professional coaching. Today, she works with leaders and organizations to build team engagement, psychological safety and high-performing teams.

In this conversation, Adeline argues that psychological safety is not simply a matter of making people feel comfortable. It has direct consequences for business performance. When employees fear the consequences of speaking up, organizations lose ideas, opportunities and warnings they may need to adapt.

She calls this the “silence bill”: the business cost of the things people don't say.

As AI accelerates change, that cost may become even more significant. Employees may worry about their jobs, leaders are under pressure to deliver today while preparing for tomorrow, and organizations must make decisions in an environment where reliable long-term forecasts are increasingly difficult.

Adeline believes this calls for a different kind of leadership—one based less on title and more on trust. As AI makes information more accessible, a leader's value increasingly lies in creating the conditions for people to collaborate, challenge assumptions and do their best work together.
