Is Risk a Creative Job? Why Boards Do Better Treating It as Stewardship

Risk Management as Stewardship: How boards oversee risk to protect long-term value and accountability.

Sham Madhok treats risk as a stewardship function, not a creative one, a view shaped by work on very large infrastructure projects in the UK and around the world, the biggest worth $33 billion, and by a role as risk management partner at a Big Four firm. Sham argues that risk oversight is less about invention and more about protecting what an organization holds in trust for the people it serves. Drawing on 28 years in governance across healthcare, education and infrastructure, Sham shows how directors can ask stewardship questions that keep value and accountability in view. Listeners leave knowing what good risk oversight looks like from the board table.
