You Can’t Change What Hurt You - But You Can Change What You Do With It

Turning Grief Into Connection: Sharing dementia and living grief experiences can help others feel less alone.

What if the pain you desperately want to leave behind could become the very thing that helps someone else?

After six years of watching Alzheimer’s slowly take her mum, Cassie knows what it means to experience grief before a loss even happens. She lived through the heartbreak of watching her mum change, the impossible decision to move her into permanent care, the isolation of lockdown and ultimately losing her during the pandemic.

But Cassie chose not to let that experience be the end of the story.

She wrote I’ve Lost My Mum, began speaking openly about dementia and living grief, and has shared her story through events, BBC Radio and national television - including BBC Morning Live.

Cassie explores how sharing our experiences can turn isolation into connection, pain into purpose and a personal story into something that helps other people feel less alone.

Because you can’t always change what happened to you. But you can choose what you do with it.
