Can a Football Match Open More Doors Than a Trade Mission?

Sports Diplomacy for Business: How sport builds trust and partnerships across cultures, countries and organizations.

Albert Zbily worked on development policy and economic analysis with the World Bank and the U.S. Department of State before becoming President of FIFCO, and now practises a different kind of diplomacy on the football pitch. Albert argues that sport works as a bridge between cultures and organizations, creating the trust and meaningful international connections that formal meetings struggle to reach. Through FIFCO's corporate World Cup, employees from companies around the world compete on the same pitch, turning a match into inter-company networking. Listeners leave with a fresh way to think about building international partnerships: start with a shared game.
