Key topicsWhy midlife weight struggles rarely start with foodWomen over 40 are often told that weight gain is just a metabolism problem or a discipline problem. The hidden risk is that another diet can temporarily change the plate while leaving the stress patterns, self-talk, and emotional habits untouched. In his work across hypnotherapy, NLP, life coaching, and weight loss, the recurring pattern is that behaviour shifts more reliably when women understand what food has been doing for them emotionally. When the mirror matters more than the scalesFor many women over 40, the hardest moment is not stepping on the scales but catching their reflection and feeling like the woman looking back no longer matches who they remember being. That mirror moment is easy to dismiss as vanity, but it often reveals a deeper break in confidence, self-image, and daily behaviour. His client work focuses on that precise disconnect, where weight loss becomes less about chasing a number and more about helping women feel at home in their body again. What emotional eating is really trying to solveEmotional eating is usually treated as a bad habit to control, but for many midlife women it has become a coping strategy for stress, pressure, and feeling unseen. The mistake is attacking the snack while ignoring the belief loop that made food feel like relief in the first place. Through clinical hypnotherapy, NLP, and coaching work, he sees women make stronger progress when they identify the trigger, change the response pattern, and rebuild the trust that another restrictive plan cannot give them. About Garth Delikan

Mindset, Resilience and Lifestyle Coach, Author and Speaker

25 years Leading a London advertising agency before his reinvention6-week series Appeared on BBC TV as a lifestyle expert2 books Published on fitness, mindset and wellbeing4 London districts Client practice across Kensington, Chelsea, Mayfair and Knightsbridge

Garth Delikan is a mindset and lifestyle coach, speaker, author and advanced clinical hypnotherapist whose work is rooted in one defining belief: your past may shape you, but it does not have to decide what happens next.

His perspective was forged through experience rather than theory. After reaching the top of a successful career in London advertising, Garth saw his professional life unravel through betrayal, the collapse of his own business and the end of a 28-year marriage in rapid succession. What followed was clinical depression, severe anxiety and a period of rebuilding from the ground up. Rather than return to the life he had lost, Garth began creating a new one, first through kickboxing and personal training, then coaching, NLP, hypnotherapy and public speaking.

That reinvention changed the direction of his life. Working with clients in Kensington, Chelsea, Mayfair and Knightsbridge, Garth quickly discovered that outward success rarely tells the full story. Behind impressive careers, beautiful homes and financial security, he met people struggling with confidence, stress, identity and a profound sense that something was missing. It led him to focus not simply on changing bodies, but on helping people change the thoughts, behaviours and emotional patterns driving their lives.

About this episode

What makes one person pursue a dream relentlessly while another person never gets started?

In S3 E30 of Change Your Mind, Kris Ashley welcomesGarth Delikan, speaker, media expert, lifestyle coach, and “The Lifestyle Guy,” for a conversation about fear, ambition, confidence, resilience, and what it really takes to create meaningful change.

Garth has lived through dramatic highs and lows. After building a successful career, he experienced professional betrayal, the collapse of a business, the end of a long marriage, depression, and anxiety. Instead of allowing those experiences to define the rest of his life, he began rebuilding—one decision at a time.

That journey eventually led him into kickboxing, personal training, nutrition, NLP, hypnotherapy, life coaching, public speaking, television, radio, and transformational work.

In this episode, Kris and Garth explore:

• Why some people act on their dreams while others remain stuck

• How comfort zones can quietly keep us from growing

• Why courage is not the absence of fear

• The importance of consistency, discipline, and momentum

• Garth’s concept of living at “cause” instead of living at “effect”

• Why personal responsibility can be empowering

• How setbacks can become unexpected redirections

• The role of confidence in pursuing new opportunities

• Why making time for your goals matters more than making excuses

• The morning routine that helped Garth change his emotional state

• How trusting the next step can open doors you never expected

Garth also shares one of the biggest lessons from his own life: when something is no longer working, you don’t always have to force your way through it. Sometimes the answer is to step back, look at the situation differently, and find another route.

Kris and Garth also discuss whether those persistent pulls toward a new career, project, or direction may be signs worth listening to—and what can happen when we ignore them for too long.

If you’ve been sitting on an idea, waiting to feel ready, or wondering whether you have what it takes to make a change, this episode is an invitation to stop waiting for perfect conditions.

Believe in yourself. Take the next step. Keep moving.
